The Peplink 5G Dongle is a compact USB-C 5G modem that adds carrier-certified 5G to a compatible Peplink router or a Windows, macOS, or Linux computer over one cable for both data and power. It serves two roles: automatic backup for an existing wired ISP, with the connected Peplink router’s own WAN failover doing the switching, or a standalone primary 5G connection for kiosks, new locations, temporary sites, and mobile teams. Its Qualcomm X62-based modem reaches up to 3.4 Gbps theoretical on 5G Sub-6 and falls back to LTE Cat 19, with dual Nano-SIM slots, automatic SIM failover, and AT&T and T-Mobile certification. As Peplink’s successor to the retired MAX Adapter 5G, it pairs with an ISPTek cellular SIM card data plan for an always-ready 5G WAN.

What It Does & Key Features:

  • Plug-In 5G Failover for Peplink Routers: Connected to a compatible Peplink router, the Dongle becomes an additional cellular WAN: when the wired or satellite primary drops, the router’s WAN failover shifts traffic to 5G and back on recovery. Where wired service isn’t installed yet, it runs as the primary connection.
  • 5G Sub-6 in SA & NSA Modes: Eighteen Sub-6 5G NR bands reach theoretical peaks of 3.4 Gbps download and 550 Mbps upload, and LTE Cat 19 fallback tops out at 1.6 Gbps / 200 Mbps.
  • One USB-C Port for Data & Power: A single USB-C connection powers the Dongle (5V 2A, 3.2W nominal) and presents it to the host as a standard USB network adapter, with drivers already included in most modern versions of Windows, macOS, and Linux. A data-capable USB-C cable is sold separately.
  • Dual Nano-SIM Slots with Automatic SIM Failover: Two 4FF Nano-SIM slots share one A/B tray with configurable SIM priority. One SIM is active at a time — health checks (SmartCheck, Ping, HTTP, or DNS) watch the link, and the Dongle switches SIMs when the cellular WAN hits its fallback timeout.
  • IP Passthrough & Built-In Modem Tools: The local web UI covers DHCP reservations, DNS proxy, SMS control, and data-usage monitoring. IP Passthrough hands the cellular IP address directly to one connected device with no NAT in between.
  • 4×4 MIMO with Four SMA Antenna Ports: Four SMA cellular connectors and four included LTE/5G antennas pair with a modem module that supports up to 4×4 downlink MIMO, improving throughput and link stability where signal is marginal.
  • Compact, Industrial-Grade Design: At 3.9 x 2.8 x 0.7 in and 0.3 lb, the Dongle fits inside kiosks, equipment cabinets, and laptop bags, and it operates from -40°F to 149°F (-40°C to 65°C) at 15–95% non-condensing humidity.
  • Cloud Visibility with InControl 2: Track latency, signal strength, client info, and bandwidth from the local web UI or across large deployments in InControl 2. The DNGL-5GY-PRM model includes the first year of PrimeCare.

Works Across All Major U.S. Carrier Networks:

The Peplink 5G Dongle is certified on AT&T and T-Mobile and works with ISPTek’s cellular SIM card data plans on both. Its 18 Sub-6 5G bands and 20 LTE bands cover the core spectrum of the largest U.S. networks.

  • AT&T Certified: Carrier-certified on AT&T’s network, covering n77 and n5 850 MHz 5G alongside LTE Bands 2, 12, 14, 17, 29, 30, and 66.
  • T-Mobile Certified: Holds a 3-out-of-3 rating on T-Mobile’s IoT device certification and supports 5G Standalone on n41 2.5 GHz for capacity and n71 600 MHz for wide-area rural coverage.
  • C-Band, Mid-Band & Band 13: n77 C-Band, n78, n48 CBRS, and n2, n25, n66, and n70 mid-band 5G, plus 700 MHz LTE Band 13 — the core spectrum behind America’s largest nationwide networks.
  • LTE Cat 19 Fallback: Twenty LTE bands, among them B2, B4, B12, B13, B14, B66, and B71, keep the Dongle connected at up to 1.6 Gbps theoretical in areas 5G hasn’t reached, so the connection never hinges on 5G coverage.

Enhanced with ISPTek’s Cellular SIM Card Data Plans:

  • Public Static IP Addresses: Most cellular connections sit behind carrier-grade NAT. With a public static IP and IP Passthrough turned on, the connected router or computer receives a fixed, reachable address for VPNs, remote management, and kiosk or equipment access.
  • Data Pooling Across Devices: Failover SIMs use little data until an outage hits. On ISPTek’s pooled plans, every SIM in the same plan category shares one allowance, so a single site’s outage draws on data the quiet sites never touched.
  • Over 12 Custom Plans: Match each SIM to how the Dongle is used — low-cost standby plans for router failover, or higher-capacity and unlimited plans where the Dongle is the primary connection.
  • No Activation or Cancellation Fees: Add SIMs as new kiosks, sites, and team members come online and remove them when projects wrap — billed month to month, with no setup charges or early-termination penalties.
  • Zero Touch Advanced Security: Every ISPTek SIM is protected by network-level security from its first connection, whether the Dongle is backing up a branch router or carrying traffic for an unattended kiosk.

Who Benefits?

  • MSPs & Peplink Partners: MSPs already running Peplink routers at client sites can add a certified 5G WAN over a single USB-C cable, monitor every Dongle in InControl 2, and keep every client SIM on one ISPTek billing account.
  • Multi-Location Retail & Restaurants: Plug a Dongle into each location’s Peplink router so POS terminals, card processing, and online ordering fail over to 5G when the wired ISP drops, with ISPTek plans sized for standby use keeping backup data costs in check.
  • Kiosks & Embedded Systems: Self-service kiosks and embedded PCs get a direct 5G connection over USB-C with no Ethernet run to install. An ISPTek public static IP with IP Passthrough gives each unit a reachable address for remote support.
  • Industrial Machinery & Robotics: Machine builders and plant operators can fit the Dongle inside equipment enclosures for remote monitoring, with a -40°F to 149°F operating range and an ISPTek public static IP for reaching each machine.
  • Remote Workers & Mobile Teams: Travelers, field staff, and mobile teams plug the Dongle into a laptop for 5G wherever their carrier reaches, while home-office users keep it ready as a backup when residential broadband goes down.
  • Construction Sites & New Locations: Use the Dongle as the primary link for a job-site trailer or newly opened branch while the wired circuit is being installed, then leave it on the Peplink router as automatic backup after the wired ISP goes live — one device covers both phases.
  • Existing MAX Adapter 5G Users: Teams refreshing retired MAX Adapter 5G units can move to its next-generation successor, the 5G Dongle, and keep every unit on one ISPTek billing account.

The Peplink 5G Dongle gives a compatible Peplink router an automatic 5G failover path behind the wired ISP, or runs as a standalone primary connection for kiosks, laptops, and sites where wired service isn’t installed yet, with dual Nano-SIM failover inside the Dongle itself. Where a router needs an RJ45 connection with PoE power instead of USB-C, the Peplink 5G Adapter offers the same class of 5G modem in an Ethernet enclosure. Activated with ISPTek’s cellular SIM card data plans, each Dongle can add a public static IP, draw on pooled-data plan options, and run month to month on a plan sized for its role: primary, backup, or both.
