Peplink MAX BR1 Mini 5G front panel with three gigabit Ethernet ports

The Peplink MAX BR1 Mini 5G is a compact, fanless 5G router built around a Qualcomm X62-based Sub-6 modem (3.4 Gbps theoretical peak) with LTE Cat 19 fallback, two Nano-SIM slots, three Gigabit Ethernet ports (one with 802.3at PoE input), and ignition-sensing vehicle power. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile certified, it can be the primary 5G link for a vehicle, kiosk, or new site, or stand by as automatic 5G failover for a wired ISP once its WAN port is licensed — and activates seamlessly with ISPTek’s cellular SIM card data plans.

The Peplink MAX BR1 Mini 5G, also sold as the Pepwave BR1 Mini 5G, is a compact, fanless 5G router for vehicles, kiosks, POS counters, and remote equipment. It handles two jobs: a standalone primary 5G connection, or automatic 5G failover for an existing wired ISP, through its license-enabled WAN port or as a 5G adapter on a spare WAN port of a firewall that handles the switchover. This non-Wi-Fi, non-GPS model (MAX-BR1-MINI-5GN-T-M-PRM) is Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile certified and pairs a Sub-6 5G modem with two Nano-SIM slots, three Gigabit Ethernet ports, PoE or 10–30V DC power, and ignition sensing. Each unit becomes a fully working 5G link with ISPTek cellular SIM card data plans sized to its role.

What It Does & Key Features:

  • Wired WAN Failover to 5G: Port 3, labeled “3 / WAN,” becomes an Ethernet WAN once enabled by PrimeCare (included for the first year on -PRM units) or the MAX-BR1-MINI-LC-FP Feature Pack. With the cable or fiber modem connected there, 5G stands by and takes over if the wired line fails. The same license adds SpeedFusion Hot Failover, Smoothing, and Bandwidth Bonding; after year one, renew PrimeCare or add the Feature Pack to keep them active.
  • Sub-6 5G on a Qualcomm X62 Modem: A Quectel RM520N-GL module on Qualcomm’s SDX62 covers 28 Sub-6 NR bands in NSA and SA modes, with Private 5G support. Peplink lists theoretical peaks of 3.4 Gbps down / 900 Mbps up on 5G and 1.6 Gbps / 200 Mbps on LTE; router throughput is 300 Mbps, with 1 to 60 recommended users.
  • Primary & Reserve Nano-SIM Slots: Two 4FF slots feed the single modem. One SIM carries traffic while the other waits, and the router switches to the reserve SIM automatically if the active one loses service.
  • 4×4 MIMO on Four SMA Ports: Four SMA connectors and the four bundled LTE/5G antennas give the modem 4×4 downlink MIMO on supported Sub-6 bands. Peplink’s 40G-series and Antenna MAX antennas are optional upgrades for vehicle roofs and weak-signal sites.
  • Three Gigabit Ports, PoE Input & Dual Power: LAN 1 accepts 802.3at PoE input, LAN 2 serves wired devices, and port 3 runs as LAN or, once licensed, as the Ethernet WAN. A 4-pin Micro-Fit connector takes 10–30V DC from the included 12V adapter or vehicle power, and both inputs can run at once for redundancy.
  • Compact Fanless Case with Ignition Sensing: The ventless 5.0 x 4.2 x 1.4 in metal case weighs 0.93 lb, runs from -40°F to 149°F (-40°C to 65°C), and is certified for shock and vibration resistance and EN 45545-2 railway fire protection. Ignition sensing guards vehicle batteries; a DIN rail kit and cigarette-lighter cable are optional.
  • No Wi-Fi or GPS, Managed from the Cloud: Peplink left both radios out for networks that require a highly secure connection. A stateful firewall, VLANs, IPsec VPN, QoS, and SNMP v3 run on board, and the included PrimeCare year covers warranty and InControl 2.
  • BR1 Mini 5G with Wi-Fi (MAX-BR1-MINI-5GN-T-PRM): This version keeps the same modem, bands, ports, and SIM slots and adds dual-band 2×2 Wi-Fi 5 with WPA3 and two Wi-Fi antennas. It serves clients as an access point or, with PrimeCare or the Feature Pack, uses a nearby Wi-Fi network as an extra WAN.

Certified on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile & All Major U.S. Carrier Networks:

Both versions of the MAX BR1 Mini 5G are Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile certified per Peplink, whose certification overview adds UScellular for the non-Wi-Fi model. One modem covers the Sub-6 5G and LTE bands all three networks use, so the same hardware fits whichever carrier is strongest at the site.

  • Verizon Certified: Verizon’s Open Development catalog carries this exact SKU. C-Band n77 adds 5G capacity alongside n2, n5, and n66, while 700 MHz LTE Band 13 anchors wide-area coverage.
  • AT&T Certified: The modem covers AT&T’s n77 mid-band and 850 MHz n5 5G, Band 14 and Bands 12 and 17 low-band LTE for range, and Bands 2, 29, 30, and 66 for capacity.
  • T-Mobile Certified: Standalone 5G on 2.5 GHz n41 and 600 MHz n71 covers T-Mobile’s capacity and coverage layers, with n25 and LTE Band 71 alongside; T-Mobile’s IoT program rates this SKU 3 out of 3.
  • Cat 19 LTE Where 5G Runs Out: Low-band B12, B13, B14, and B71 and mid-band B2, B4, B25, and B66 hold the connection at up to 1.6 Gbps theoretical beyond 5G coverage.

Enhanced with ISPTek’s Cellular SIM Card Data Plans:

  • Public Static IP Addresses: Give the 5G link a fixed public address so IPsec tunnels, camera port forwards, and remote admin reach the router directly instead of stopping at carrier-grade NAT.
  • Data Pooling Across Devices: A busy van and a quiet kiosk can draw on one shared pool when both SIMs belong to the same ISPTek plan category, so a heavy month on one unit is offset by a light month on another.
  • Over 12 Custom Plans: A unit behind a wired ISP needs only a lean standby plan, a 5G-primary van may need a larger or unlimited one, and the reserve SIM can carry its own plan.
  • No Activation or Cancellation Fees: Bring a SIM online when a van enters service or a kiosk goes live and take it offline when a truck is retired, with no setup charge and no termination penalty.
  • Zero Touch Advanced Security: Security is applied on ISPTek’s network side, so a BR1 Mini 5G left unattended in a parked van or a locked kiosk cabinet still has protection ahead of its own stateful firewall.

Who Benefits?

  • MSPs & IT Integrators: One compact SKU covers PoE closet installs, vehicle kits, and licensed wired-ISP failover, all visible in InControl 2, with ISPTek supplying every unit’s data plan on one account.
  • Retail Stores & Restaurants: Card terminals, POS, and online ordering move to 5G when the wired line drops, with backup SIMs pooling data across locations on one ISPTek plan category.
  • Financial Services & Healthcare: Bank branches, credit unions, and clinics gain 5G WAN redundancy for card processing and EMR access, with IPsec and a stateful firewall guarding the cellular path.
  • Government & Public Sector: Agencies that bar Wi-Fi and GPS radios on network gear can field certified 5G with neither on board, and Peplink’s product page carries a TAA Compliant badge.
  • Fleet, Field Service & Transit: Ignition sensing and Micro-Fit vehicle power suit trucks and buses, and the router holds EN 45545-2 railway fire-protection certification. With no GPS on board, tracking stays with each vehicle’s telematics.
  • IoT, Kiosks & Remote Surveillance: One PoE cable powers and connects the router inside kiosks and camera cabinets, while an ISPTek static IP and PrimeCare’s InTouch keep NVRs and sensors reachable.
  • Construction & New Locations: Bring a site office online over 5G from day one, then move the router to failover duty on its license-enabled WAN port when the wired circuit arrives.

The Peplink MAX BR1 Mini 5G packs carrier-certified Sub-6 5G, three Gigabit ports, and PoE or vehicle power into a fanless metal case. Run it as the primary connection for a vehicle, kiosk, or new site, or keep it behind a wired ISP as automatic 5G failover through its license-enabled WAN port or the site’s existing firewall. The reserve SIM and simultaneous PoE and DC inputs guard against a failed SIM or a lost power source. On ISPTek’s cellular SIM card data plans, a public static IP keeps IPsec tunnels and camera access reachable, standby units run lean plans, and units in the same plan category pool their data.
